Maruti Sun Awnings

Maruti Sun Awnings is located over at Pitru Chay Apartmenta in the Maheta Vadi area of Nagarwada. It’s more of a workshop than a showroom. We spend most of our time cutting fabric and welding the frames for the awnings. It’s a small space, so things get a bit crowded when we have a lot of orders. Usually, there's pieces of canvas and metal tubes lying around on the floor. We try to keep it organized, but when you're busy, things just pile up. Nagarwada is a crowded neighborhood, so getting the bigger deliveries in and out can be a bit of a headache with the narrow streets. My cousin helps me out with the installations. We go out to people's houses and bolt the frames to their walls so they can get some shade from the sun. It’s simple work, but you have to get the measurements right or nothing fits. We don’t have a website, most people just hear about us from their neighbors or walk by the shop. The sewing machine is pretty old, but it still works fine for the heavy material we use. Sometimes it jams up, and I have to spend an hour cleaning out the lint. We usually have the radio playing while we work. It keeps the energy up during the long afternoons. If the rain comes, we have to move everything inside quickly because the fabric shouldn't get wet. It's a bit of a scramble, but we've got a system.
