Monginis The Cake Shop

It gets pretty lively here at the Race Course Circle, especially near the automobile market where we are located. At Monginis The Cake Shop, our day starts earlier than most because the deliveries of fresh cakes and snacks arrive when the streets are still quiet. By the time the shops in Prahlad Nagar start opening up, we already have the glass cases filled with pastries and savory rolls. We spend a lot of time wiping down the counters because people are constantly coming in and out, especially kids after school or people working in the nearby offices. It smells like vanilla and baked bread most of the time, which isn't a bad way to spend your day. We handle a lot of last-minute birthday cake orders, and sometimes the handwriting on the "Happy Birthday" signs isn't as perfect as a machine, but we do it by hand with the icing bag. The evenings are usually the busiest when everyone is heading home and wants to grab something sweet for their family. There’s a lot of clicking of the cash drawer and the sound of the fridge humming in the back corner. We just try to keep things organized so nobody has to wait too long in the heat. It can get a bit cramped when five people come in at once, but we manage to keep the line moving. We like seeing the same faces every week.
