Micron Alumina Pvt. Ltd. is situated at 682, G.I.D.C. Makarpura. If you’ve ever been to the Makarpura industrial estate, you know it’s a massive place with rows and rows of units. Our spot is tucked into one of those rows. It’s a heavy industrial environment, so there is always a bit of dust in the air. We wear our work clothes and don’t worry too much about getting a bit dirty. The facility has high ceilings to keep it from getting too stuffy, though the Gujarat heat still finds its way in during May. We have a few large containers for the materials we handle and some basic machinery for processing. The noise level can get high when everything is running at once, so we mostly communicate with hand signals or shout over the din. We have a small cabin for the office work, but most of us spend our time out on the main floor. There is a tap outside where we wash up before heading home. Lunch usually happens in shifts because we try to keep the machines going as much as possible. We don’t have any fancy brochures or a lobby with a sofa. It’s just a gate, a warehouse, and a group of people who have been working together for a long time. We just take things one day at a time and try to keep the orders moving out of the gate.
