Subandhu Pakrite

Our place, Subandhu Pakrite, is over on Plot No. 469 in the GIDC Industrial Estate. We are right near the Jayant Oil Mill, so you can often smell whatever they are processing over there depending on which way the wind is blowing. It's a familiar scent for us now. The building we work in has seen better days, but it does the job. We have high ceilings to keep it a bit cooler, though it doesn't help much in the peak of summer. Most of the day is spent handling materials and making sure the machines are fed. We aren't the kind of people who sit in offices all day. My hands are usually stained with something or another by lunchtime. We don't have a fancy website or a marketing person. Most people find us because they know someone who worked with us before. We keep a small radio in the corner playing local stations, which helps pass the time when the work gets repetitive. The floor is concrete and hard on the feet, so we all wear thick boots. Sometimes the neighbor’s dog comes by looking for scraps. It’s a simple setup. We focus on the daily tasks and making sure we don't waste any material. At the end of the day, we pull down the shutter and head home, just like everyone else in this industrial patch. It’s honest work and it keeps us busy from Monday to Saturday.
