Shon Cearmics is located at Plot No. 159 in the Gidc Industrial Estate. Working with ceramics means there is a lot of clay and white dust everywhere. No matter how much we sweep, it always seems to come back by the next morning. We have several kilns that stay hot for a long time, so the temperature inside the building is always a few degrees higher than it is outside. We have to be careful where we walk because there are often stacks of finished goods drying on the floor. The workers wear heavy aprons and their hands are usually covered in grey sludge. Our office is just a small cabin with glass windows so we can see what is happening on the floor. We keep the registers and the order forms on a wooden desk that has been here since we started. There is a lot of heavy lifting involved, moving the molds and the finished pieces. Sometimes things break, and we have a pile of shards in the corner that we eventually clear out. The road outside is paved but has a lot of potholes from the heavy rain and the trucks. We don't have a big marketing team or a fancy website. Most of our work comes from people who have known us for years. It is a messy, hot, and tiring job, but we just keep at it day after day.
