Our place is at Plot No. 374-2. It’s basically a big room full of crates and boxes. We spend most of the day on the phone or checking the manifest to see what arrived. The Gidc Ind. Estate is always crawling with traffic, so we hear horns honking all day long. We don't manufacture anything here, we just move things from one place to another. It sounds simple, but keeping track of everything in the warehouse is a headache. There are piles of pallets stacked up against the back wall. Sometimes the labels fall off and we have to open things up to see what’s inside. The office part is just a corner with a computer that’s a bit slow and a few chairs for when people come to pick up their orders. We drink a lot of tea while we wait for the transporters to show up. Sometimes they are early, usually they are late. The metal roof makes a lot of noise when it rains, so you can’t hear yourself think. We use a hand trolley that squeaks every time you turn a corner. It needs some oil, but we never seem to get around to it. It’s a straightforward business. We just try to keep the stacks organized so we can find what’s needed without moving twenty other boxes first. It is a lot of lifting and counting every single day. We stay until the last truck leaves the estate grounds.
