Mahendrabhai Atmaram Mistry

This is the shop of Mahendrabhai Atmaram Mistry, located at Plot No. 511-8 in the Gidc Ind. Estate. It's a family-run kind of thing, mostly. We’ve been working out of this plot for quite a while now. It’s a lot of manual labor, mostly fixing things or making small metal components. We don't have a big website or a sales team. If someone needs something, they usually just show up at the gate and ask for us. We spend most of our time at the workbench. The tools are old but they are well-maintained because that’s how we were taught to work. My father used to say that if you take care of your tools, they take care of you. We have a lot of scrap metal piled in the corner that we use for various little fixes. The tea man comes by twice a day and that’s usually when we take our only breaks. It gets busy and sometimes the air is thick with smoke from the welding, but we are used to it. We don't use any fancy management software; everything is written down in a ledger book that sits on the desk. It’s a simple way of doing things but it has worked for us so far. We are just trying to make a living like everyone else in the estate. You can find us here every day except Sunday. We keep the shop light on even when we aren't working on a project.
