About Jay Mataji Spring Works – Engineering in Vadodara
Our shop is at A-1-256-11 in the GIDC Estate. It's not a huge place, but it's enough for what we do. We make springs. All kinds of them. Some are tiny for small gadgets and others are thick for heavy machinery. The coilers make a specific sound that you get used to after a while. It's almost rhythmic. My dad started this years ago, and I just kept it going. We have a few machines that have been with us since the beginning. They need oiling every morning. The floor is always covered in small metal scraps, no matter how much we sweep. We wear heavy boots for a reason. It's not a glamorous job. Usually, the phone rings and someone needs a specific size. We check the wire gauge and get to it. We don't have a marketing guy. If people like the work, they tell their friends. That’s how we get most of our orders. The GIDC estate is where we spend most of our lives. It’s dusty and noisy, but it’s home. We have a small desk for the bills and a stove for making tea. That’s the whole setup. We just make sure the tension is right on every spring. It’s steady work and we like it that way. On Saturdays, we usually try to clean up the workbench for the next week, but it never stays tidy for long. It keeps us busy.
