Working with glue at Bond-tech Adhesive means you get used to the smell of chemicals pretty fast. We are located at Plot No. 250-8 in the Gidc Ind. Estate, which is a busy area with a lot of noise. Every morning starts with checking the vats and making sure the mixtures are right. It is a bit of a messy job, to be honest. You have to be careful not to get the stuff on your clothes because it doesn't come out easily. The floor is often a bit sticky in places, no matter how much we clean it. We spend most of the day filling drums and labeling them for shipping. There is a small window in the back that looks out over the rest of the estate, but we don't get much time to stare out of it. Most of the guys here have been working together for years, so we have a rhythm. We don't use big fancy words for what we do. We just make the adhesive and try to keep the machines from clogging up. Sometimes the temperature in the warehouse gets too high and we have to adjust how we work. Tea comes around at 10 and 4, which is the best part of the shift. We sit near the loading dock where there is some fresh air. It’s a simple life, focused on barrels and batches and getting things delivered.
