Ambuja Galvanisers

If you go to the GIDC Estate in Makarpura, you’ll find Ambuja Galvanisers at units 303 to 307. It’s a big space because we need the room for the tanks and the metal parts we work on. The air always smells a bit like chemicals and hot metal, which is normal for this kind of work. We spend a lot of time moving heavy pieces around with the overhead lifts. It’s not the cleanest job in Vadodara, and our clothes usually end up with some marks by the end of the shift. The heat from the galvanizing baths is something you just get used to after a week or two. We have a small office tucked in the corner where the phone rings, but most of us are out on the floor. People bring us steel that needs coating so it won't rust out in the rain. We dip them, let them dry, and stack them up for the trucks to take back. The GIDC is always loud with other factories doing their thing, so you have to talk a bit louder to be heard. We don't have a fancy reception area. Usually, if someone comes by, they just walk up to the gate and wait for one of us to see them. It’s hard work, but it’s what we know how to do. We just focus on getting the coating thick enough and keeping the schedule moving without much delay.
