Our place, A R Laminators, is over at Plot No. 497-2 in the GIDC Industrial Estate. If you’ve ever walked through a GIDC area, you know exactly what it’s like. There's always a bit of noise from the neighboring units and the sound of loaders moving around throughout the day. We’ve been operating out of this spot for some time now. The walls could probably use a fresh coat of paint, but we’re usually too busy with the lamination process to worry about how the building looks. It’s steady work. We get the material in, set up the machines, and keep a close eye on the temperature and pressure. It’s not a science exactly, more like a feeling you get after doing it for years. Sometimes the rolls are heavy and it takes a couple of us to get them positioned right. We don't have a fancy website or a front desk person sitting there. Usually, if the phone rings, one of us just wipes our hands on a rag and picks it up. We drink a lot of chai from the stall at the corner of the estate. It keeps us going during the long shifts when the orders are piled up. People in the estate know us as A R Laminators, the guys who just get on with the job. It’s a practical life. We aren't trying to change the world, just trying to make sure every batch that leaves the plot is done right and on time.
