Laxmi Motor

Laxmi Motor is our garage here in Vadodara. It is a greasy, loud place but that is just how a mechanic shop should be. We have several cars parked in and out at any given time, some waiting for parts and others just getting an oil change. My clothes are almost always covered in dark oil spots that never really wash out. We spend the day under hoods or crouching down to look at brakes and tires. The floor is stained with all sorts of fluids and there are tools scattered across the workbenches. It can be hard to find a specific wrench when things get busy in the afternoon. Vadodara gets really hot, so working near those warm engines makes us sweat quite a bit. We have a big metal shutter that stays open all day to let the light in. Sometimes we have to tell people their car isn't ready because the traffic delayed the delivery of a spare part. We don't have a fancy waiting room, just a bench outside under the shade of a small tree. People stop by to ask for directions or just to check their tire pressure. We do a lot of heavy lifting and our hands are usually calloused. It's tough work but there is a certain rhythm to it that we like. We stay open until the sun goes down and then we spend some time cleaning up the worst of the mess.
