Our shop is located in Vadodara 7. It is full of metal shelves and various parts for cars and bikes. There is always a bit of oil on the floor, no matter how much we sweep it up at night. It is just the nature of this business. We spend most of the day looking through old catalogs or climbing ladders to find a specific bolt or a gasket that someone needs. It is not the cleanest job in the world. Our hands stay dirty pretty much from the morning until we finally go home. Customers come in with old, broken parts, asking if we have a match in the back. Sometimes we do, sometimes we have to order it in from somewhere else. The air inside smells like rubber and engine oil. We have got a small wooden counter where we do all the paperwork. It is usually covered in grease smudges and old pens. We do not have any fancy displays or bright lights. It is just rows and rows of boxes. Some days are slow and we just sit and talk about the old cars we have seen. Other days, everyone seems to have a breakdown at the exact same time. We just keep at it. It is a steady kind of life. Being in Vadodara 7 means we see a lot of the same mechanics every week. We know their names and what they usually need. It is a practical way to spend the day.
