Janu Art Academy

We are located right behind Bright School in the Shriji Charan Society, which makes it very easy for the students to walk over after their classes are done. Our academy is a bit of a creative muddle, with half-finished paintings leaning against the walls and jars of dirty brushes sitting by the sink. There is always the faint smell of oil paint or charcoal in the air, which I’ve grown to quite like over the years. We teach a lot of different things here on VIP Road, from simple drawing for the little ones to more detailed work for the older kids and adults. The tables are usually covered in splashes of color, and we don't worry too much about keeping things perfectly clean because that isn't really the point of an art space. Sometimes the noise from the school playground next door gets a bit loud, but it adds to the energy of the place. We have some of the better drawings pinned up on the boards so everyone can see what’s being made, though we run out of space for them pretty quickly. It’s a humble setup with wooden stools and old easels that have been used by hundreds of hands. K'Bagh is a friendly neighborhood, and we often have parents sticking their heads in just to see how the day’s work is coming along. It’s just a place where people can sit down and draw without any pressure.
