National Saw Mills

National Saw Mills has been over here at Plot No. 262 for a good stretch of time now. If you walk by, you will usually hear the big blades running. It gets pretty loud during the day, but that is just how it is when you are cutting through large timber. We have a lot of sawdust on the floor most mornings, and someone has to sweep it up before we get started. It is a dusty job, and our clothes usually show it by the time we head home in the evening. We handle all sorts of wood that comes in on the trucks. Sometimes the wood is damp from the rain, and we have to let it sit for a bit before we can work on it. There are a few of us here who have been doing this since we were much younger. We know the machines pretty well, even the older ones that need a bit of a kick to get going sometimes. Plot No. 262 isn’t the fanciest spot in the area, but it works for what we do. We do not have a big front office or anything like that. Usually, you just find us out back by the piles of logs. People come by to ask about different cuts or sizes, and we do what we can with what we have in stock. The tea guy comes around twice a day, which is something we all look for. It is just regular work, nothing too complicated, but it keeps us busy.
