Renuka Umbrella Works

Renuka Umbrella Works has been sitting right here on Gandhi Gate Road for quite some time now. You can find us easily because we are directly opposite Ghantiyada Naka. It is a bit of an old-fashioned business, honestly. We spend our days surrounded by ribs, fabric, and handles. When the monsoon season is about to hit, the shop gets incredibly cramped with people bringing in their broken umbrellas or looking for a new one that will not flip inside out in the wind. The rest of the year is a bit quieter, but there is always something to mend or stitch back together. The shop is not much to look at, just a narrow space with a lot of stuff hanging from the ceiling. My hands are usually a bit stained from the dyes or the oil we use on the folding parts. It is a lot of sitting and focused work with small tools. We do not have a website or anything like that. People just know where we are from word of mouth or by walking past the gate. Sometimes the sewing machine acts up and we have to take a break to fix it, which slows things down a bit. It is just how it goes in a small workshop like ours. We just keep at it, one umbrella at a time, making sure they stay together.
