Campho Chem Industries

Being out here in GIDC Makarpura means we are surrounded by a lot of other factories. Our spot at 472 is right near the Jayant Oil Mill, so you can often smell whatever they are processing over there. It is a heavy, industrial scent that you just get used to after a week or two. Our building is mostly functional, with high ceilings and a lot of concrete floors that always seem to have a thin layer of dust no matter how much we sweep. We have been operating here for a long time, and the machines have their own personalities now. You have to kick the one on the left just right to get it started in the morning. It’s loud, and the vibrations can be felt through your boots. We mostly focus on getting the drums filled and labeled correctly. It is a lot of manual labor, moving things from one side of the floor to the other. During the monsoon, the roof leaks a little bit near the back door, so we have to move the stock around to keep it dry. We usually have a small tea break under the shade of the tree out front around four o’clock. It’s the only time it feels quiet. The trucks are always coming and going from the neighboring plots, so there is a constant rumble of engines in the background all day long, even when we are trying to eat lunch.
