Miss Beauty is a small shop tucked away in Nandi Bazar. If you know the bazaar, you know how crowded and loud it gets on market days. We’re right there in the middle of it. It’s not a high-end spa with soft music and expensive candles. It’s just a place where women come to get their hair done, or maybe some threading and henna. We have a few chairs, some mirrors that we try to keep clean, and a lot of different bottles of hair oil and shampoo on the shelves. It’s usually a bit noisy with people chatting and the sounds of the street coming through the door. We’ve been in Nandi Bazar for a long time, and we know most of our customers by their first names. They come in to catch up on news while we work. We don't have a big menu of services or fancy titles for what we do. It’s just basic beauty work that helps people feel a bit better when they leave. Sometimes we’re so busy we don’t even have time to sit down for lunch, but that’s a good problem to have. The floor is usually covered in hair clippings by the end of the day, and we spend a lot of time sweeping. It’s a small, honest business, and we like being part of the daily life here in the market. We stay open until the last customer is done.
