We started things up here in Barkot, specifically working out of the Hotel Yamuna Kriti Cottages in Kharsali. It’s a quiet area near Uttarkashi. Dealing with land and property in the hills is a bit different than the cities. People usually come to us because they know where we are located. We just handle the paperwork and help folks find a spot that works for them. My desk is usually covered in maps and old property records. Sometimes the weather makes it hard to get out to the sites, but that is just part of living in Uttarakhand. We don't have a big fancy office, just a small space where we sit down and talk through things. It is mostly local talk, people asking about who owns what plot or if someone is selling near the main road. We’ve been at 126 Kharsali for a while now. It stays busy during the season when tourists come through, but mostly it is just us and the neighbors. We try to keep things straightforward. If someone needs a piece of land, we look at what is available and tell them the truth about it. There’s no point in making things sound better than they are. The mountains are right there, so the views usually do the talking anyway. We just make sure the legal side is handled so nobody has issues later on. This is our home and our work.
