P P K Store is just a local spot here in Periya Patti. It’s a simple building where we sell all sorts of things that people in the village might need for their houses. You’ll find us right on the main path through town. I spend most of my day behind the counter, weighing out sugar or counting out change for the kids who come in for sweets. It’s a small space, so it gets quite hot in the summer months, but we have a good old fan that keeps the air moving. My wife helps me keep the shelves stocked when I’m busy talking with customers. We don't have a computer system; everything is done by hand in a thick notebook. It’s the way we’ve always done it here. People come in to buy their daily milk or some soap, and we usually end up talking for ten minutes about how their family is doing or the crops. It’s a slow kind of life, but it suits Periya Patti just fine. We don't have a big fancy storefront, just a wooden door and a few crates of soda stacked outside. Sometimes the delivery van doesn’t show up because the road is washed out or muddy, so we just make do with what we have in the back. It’s a basic shop for basic needs. We aren't trying to change the world; we’re just here to make sure the neighbors have what they need for dinner. It’s home to us.
