You can find us over at 6 Akrampur, right near Kanpur. The easiest way to explain where we are is to tell people to look for the Indian Oil Petrol Pump. We are very close to that. It’s a busy spot with trucks and cars constantly pulling in and out, so it can be quite loud during the day. We’ve got a fairly large space here compared to some of the other shops nearby. The smell of leather is pretty strong once you walk through the doors, but you get used to it after a few minutes. We spend our days cutting, stitching, and checking the soles of the shoes. It’s dusty work and by five o'clock we are usually covered in it. We have a team of guys who have been doing this for decades. They don't need to look at the patterns anymore; their hands just know what to do. We don't have a fancy front office with air conditioning. We just have a few fans that move the hot air around during the Kanpur summers. Sometimes the delivery trucks get stuck in the mud near the entrance when it rains heavily. We just grab some shovels and help them out. It’s just how things are done here. We aren't looking to impress anyone with a shiny building. We just want to make sure the shoes are sturdy and ready to be shipped out to whoever ordered them. It's just honest daily work for us.
