S. S. Fashion

S. S. Fashion is our little place out here in Barogram. We are tucked away near the Dulopur post office in the Uluberia district. It’s a quiet corner of Howrah compared to the city, but we stay busy enough. My family started this because we knew how to handle fabric and sewing machines. Most days, you’ll find us sitting around the big cutting table. The floors are a bit dusty from all the thread, but that’s just how a workshop looks. We don’t have a fancy showroom or anything like that. People from around the neighborhood know where we are if they need something made. We usually start early in the morning before the sun gets too hot. There’s a tea shop just down the road where we get our morning snacks. The machines have been with us for years and they make a lot of noise, but it’s a sound we like. Sometimes the delivery trucks have trouble finding the exact spot in Dulopur, so we have to go out and wave them down. It’s a simple setup. We just focus on the work at hand and try to get everything finished by the end of the week. There’s no big management here, just a few of us making sure the stitches are straight and the fabric is cut right. It’s what we do every day and it keeps us going. We hope to stay here in Barogram for many more years to come.
