Edison Lamps Industries

Edison Lamps Industries is our shop on Manewada Road. It’s a busy street with lots of shops, but we’ve been here long enough that people know us. We handle lamps and lighting parts. The shelves are packed with glass and metal bits. It’s a bit cramped inside. You have to watch your step so you don’t knock anything over. My dad started this place years ago. Now we just keep it going. It’s a lot of cleaning dust off the bulbs. We don't have a big showroom with fancy displays. It’s more like a storehouse where people come to find specific parts they can’t get elsewhere. The lighting is okay, ironic for a lamp shop, but we prefer to save electricity. We use an old desk for the billing. Sometimes the pen runs out of ink right when we need it. It’s just one of those things. We don’t do big ads. Local contractors usually just drop by when they are working on a house nearby. We talk about the weather and the traffic on Manewada Road while we pack their items in old newspaper. It’s a slow pace of life here. We don’t rush anyone. If you want to look around, you can. We’ll be in the back if you need help. It’s just us here most days, just working with the lights. We close up when the streetlights come on.
