Bhawani Dyeing is located in Gaikwad Pada, and if you come by, you’ll definitely know you’re in the right place because of the steam and the smell of the dyes. We’ve been working with fabrics here for quite some time now. It’s a very hands-on job. Your hands usually end up stained with whatever color we’re working on that week, whether it’s blue, red, or green. We don’t have a fancy showroom. It’s more about the vats, the drying racks, and the constant movement of cloth. The area of Gaikwad Pada is pretty tight, so trucks have to be careful when they’re coming in to drop off raw materials. We have a routine that starts early in the morning before the sun gets too hot, because once the machines are running, it gets really warm inside the shed. We don’t have any big corporate mission written on the wall. We just focus on getting the shades right and making sure the fabric doesn't get ruined in the process. Most of the workers here have been doing this for a long time, so they can tell if a color is right just by looking at it in the sunlight. We have our tea breaks out front when we can, and we talk about whatever is going on in the neighborhood. It’s simple, honest work that keeps us busy from Monday to Saturday. We just do what we do and try to keep things moving. The floor is always a bit wet.
