If you look right across from New High School, you will find our shop at number 104. We’ve been at this location for a good many years now. The sound of the school bell and the kids shouting during their break is something we hear every single day. It’s a bit of a landmark for us to describe where we are. Inside the shop, there is always the smell of wood and polish in the air. We have piles of timber stacked in the back and chairs in various stages of being finished. My hands are usually covered in sawdust by noon. We aren't a big factory with robots or fancy machines. It’s mostly hand tools and a few old machines that we know how to fix ourselves when they act up. We make tables, cupboards, and beds for the families nearby. Sometimes a teacher from the school comes over to ask for a small repair on a desk. We don't have a website or a big marketing plan. Most people just walk in because they saw our sign or their neighbor told them about us. The floor is usually messy with wood shavings, but that’s part of the job. We try to make things that last, using simple methods that have worked for a long time. It’s just me and a couple of helpers most days, keeping the business running and watching the neighborhood go by outside our front door while we work.
