About Khalsa Engineering Work – Industrial Plant & Machines in Uklana Mandi
Our workshop, Khalsa Engineering Work, sits right on the Approach Road in Uklana Mandi. Being in the Hissar district, we get some pretty extreme weather, which makes working in an open shop quite an experience. In the summer, the sun beats down on the roof and the metal we work with gets hot enough to burn if you aren't careful. The place is filled with the sound of grinding machines and the occasional flash from a welding torch. We mostly deal with local machinery and parts that people bring in from the surrounding farms. There is always a layer of grease on the floor and a bit of smoke in the air, but that is just how an engineering shop should be. We don't have an office staff or anyone to answer the phones in a professional way; usually, whoever has a free hand just picks it up. The Approach Road is usually busy with tractors and trucks, so there is never a dull moment outside our door. We keep our tools hanging on the walls where we can reach them easily, and we don't worry too much about the mess until the end of the day. There's a tea stall just down the road where we spend our breaks, usually talking about the latest news in Hissar. The floors in the workshop are stained with years of oil, and no matter how much we sweep, there's always more dust coming in from the Mandi. We don't mind it, though. It feels like home to us. Our families sometimes drop by with lunch, and we eat right there among the scrap metal and machines.
