Gupta Bricks Company is tucked away in Village Jajanwala, which is part of the Jhind district. Being out in the countryside means we have plenty of space for the kiln and all the stacks of bricks. It’s a quiet place most of the time, except for the sound of the tractors and the workers. We’ve lived and worked around Jajanwala for a long time, so we know everyone in the area. The business is run in a very old-school way. We don’t use any fancy software or have a high-tech office. It’s mostly just hand-written notes and a lot of talking to people face to face. When someone needs bricks for a new house or a barn, they just drive down to the village and find us. The work follows the seasons. In the winter, it’s cold and the clay feels different, and in the summer, the heat is intense near the fires. We don’t have a big marketing department or anything like that. Our name is just what we go by. We’re just local people providing something that everyone around here needs for their building projects. It’s a tough way to earn a living sometimes, but it’s what we know how to do. You’ll usually find us near the kiln or sitting under the shade of the small office porch when things slow down for a bit in the afternoon. We just stay here in the village and keep working.
