Ukhrul Hills Development Foundation

Out here in Huishu Village, life moves at its own pace. You can find us near the Ukhrul Viewland Jessami Junction. It’s a bit of a trek to get up here, but that’s just the way the hills are. The foundation was set up because living in these parts of Manipur comes with its own set of problems that people in the cities might not really get. We deal with whatever comes up, whether it’s helping out with a local school project or just trying to get better resources into the village. Our office isn't much to look at, just a practical space where we keep our files and meet up when there’s work to be done. We don't really have a big fancy sign or anything like that. Most people just know where we are because they see us walking around or recognize the building. It gets cold in the winters, and we usually end up huddled around a small heater while we plan out what to do for the next month. It’s honest work, even if it’s slow going sometimes. We don't use big words to describe what we do. It’s just about being here for the community and making sure the folks in the hills aren't forgotten when it comes to basic development. Some days are just about paperwork, and other days we are out on the roads checking on things, but we are always around.
