Deep Steel

Deep Steel is at Plot Number 10 on Mahakal Marg, right by the Hudkeshwar Chouraha. We are quite close to the SBI Colony, so we see a lot of the same faces walking their dogs or going to the market every morning. The shop is basically a large shed where we store all the steel rods and plates. It can get pretty cramped inside when a new shipment comes in from the factory. We don't have any fancy displays or a showroom. It is just us, the steel, and the tools we use to cut things to size. The floor is concrete and usually covered in a bit of metal dust. During the monsoon, the rain hits the tin roof so hard you can barely hear yourself talk, but we just keep working through it. We usually start the day early before the sun gets too high and makes the metal too hot to touch. Most of our customers are local builders or people from the neighborhood fixing up their houses. We don't use any big computers for the accounts, mostly just writing things down in a big ledger book that sits on the wooden table near the entrance. If the table is covered in tea cups and old newspapers, you know we’ve had a busy morning. It is a simple operation and we like it that way because it keeps things honest.
