M M Spices

M M Spices is located in the S J Arcade at Vignesh Towers on Hiriyadka Road. Our shop number is 6-121. The first thing most people notice when they walk in is the smell of all the different spices mixed together. It’s a strong scent that stays on your clothes all day but we’ve gotten used to it over the years. We spend a lot of our time weighing out bags and sealing them up for customers. The arcade can get quite busy on the weekends when people are out doing their shopping. We have a lot of regular customers who come from all over the area because they like the way we do things. Hiriyadka Road always has a lot of traffic so there is a constant hum of cars and buses outside. Inside the shop we try to keep things orderly but when a big shipment arrives there are bags of pepper and turmeric everywhere for a while. It’s a lot of manual work lifting the heavy sacks and moving them into the storage bins. My brother and I run the place and we’ve had to learn everything about the spice trade by just doing it day by day. We don't have a fancy website or anything like that. We just spend our time checking the stock and talking to the people who come through the door. It is just a normal life of sorting and selling.
