About Jadkal Spices Traders – Food & Beverages in Udupi
Our place is Vettuvazhy House in the Jadkal area. It’s way out in Kundapur-Taluk, so it feels quite different from the big cities. The air is always a bit thick with the smell of whatever we are packing that day. We have bags piled up in the corners, and sometimes the dust gets everywhere, so we are always sweeping. Dealing with spices means your clothes always smell like pepper or turmeric when you go home. My family has been around Jadkal Post for a long time. It’s a small community where everyone knows who is doing what. The roads around here can get pretty muddy when the monsoon hits, which makes moving the stock a real headache. We spend a lot of time on the phone with farmers and people wanting to buy. It’s not a quiet job, even if we are out in the country. There is always someone coming by the house to check on an order. We don’t have any big signs or bright lights. It’s just a regular house where we do our business. Sometimes we sit on the porch to talk about the prices and how the crop is looking this year. It takes a lot of work to keep everything dry and clean. The bags are heavy, and my back feels it by Friday. But that’s just how it goes when you work with spices in this part of the world. We usually close up early on Saturdays to go to the market ourselves and pick up things for the house.
