Our shop is over at 71-4-62 on Tikare Road. We’re right near Kala Bhavan, so whenever there’s a show or an event happening there, we get a big surge of people. It’s nice to see everyone dressed up and coming in for a treat after a play or a concert. Tikare Road itself is usually okay, not too crazy, but it has its moments. The shop is just a single room really, with the counters taking up most of the space. We named it Happy Ice Cream because it seemed like a simple, nice thing to call it. I spend most of my shift wiping the glass on the display cases because people are always leaning on them to see what’s inside. The light inside the shop is a bit bright, but it helps people see the menu on the wall. We don’t have a lot of bells and whistles here. It’s just us, the freezers, and a couple of fans to keep the air moving. When the Kala Bhavan is empty, it gets pretty quiet and I just sit and listen to the radio or talk to the shopkeeper next door. Sometimes we run out of the popular stuff and I have to explain it to disappointed kids. We try to keep everything stocked up, but some days are just busier than we expect. I usually take a walk around Tikare Road before we open just to see what's happening. Happy Ice Cream is a small place but it fills our days.
