Bhaskar Kalmadi

Our store is right here in the Kalmadi area of Malpe. My family has been around this building for a long time. It’s a simple place where people from the neighborhood come by to get what they need for their homes. Most of the folks who walk in are people we’ve known for years. We carry a bit of everything, the usual stuff you’d expect in a local shop. The building itself has been here quite a while. Malpe can get busy with the fishing and the tourists, but back here where we are, it’s mostly just the locals. I spend most of my day behind the counter or checking the stock in the back. It isn't a big supermarket or anything like that. Just a regular store run by me and some help. Sometimes we have a chat with the regulars while they pick out their groceries. It gets a bit dusty in the summer, and the rain can be a bit much, but the shop stays open. We just keep the shelves filled and try to be here when people need a few things. It’s a quiet way to spend the day, really. Nothing too complicated about it. We just open up in the morning and see who comes by. I have to move some of the heavy bags myself sometimes because we are a small team. It keeps me busy and the days go by fast. There is no air conditioning, just the sea breeze.
