Kacharigaon Tea Estate

Kacharigaon Tea Estate is located near the Rangapara post office in the Sonitpur district. Out here, life moves a bit slower than in the big cities. This estate is our home as much as it is our workplace. Sonitpur is a beautiful part of the world, though the monsoons can be pretty rough on the roads and the buildings. We spend most of our time out in the fields or in the sheds where the tea is dried and sorted. It is a very quiet place once you get away from the main path. Our post office is Rangapara, and that is where we get all our mail and news from the outside world. The tea estate has its own rhythm. We wake up early, check the weather, and get the crews out to the sections that need picking. It is hard work, and your back usually aches by the end of the day. We are not trying to be the biggest estate in Assam. We just want to produce tea that we can be okay with at the end of the season. Sometimes the elephants come through the area and cause a bit of a mess, which is just part of living out here in the wild. We deal with the problems as they come and try to keep the bushes healthy. The air here is so much better than in the cities, even when it is humid.
