About Sangeet Natya Niketan – Art & Craft in Udaipur
You can find Sangeet Natya Niketan over at J-1 in Bhupalpura. It’s a decent area, and we’ve been part of the neighborhood for a good while now. We focus on both music and a bit of drama, mostly because that’s what we grew up doing. The building is just a regular house that we’ve converted into a space for classes. It feels more like a home than a school, which I think people like. There’s always someone practicing their lines in one corner while someone else is tuning a sitar in another. It gets a bit chaotic, especially on weekends when everyone has free time, but it’s a good kind of busy. We don’t follow a very strict corporate schedule; if someone needs an extra ten minutes to get a part right, we just stay a bit longer. We’ve got some old costumes tucked away in the back and a few instruments that have seen better days, but they still sound fine. We aren't trying to be the biggest place in town, just a spot where people can come and be themselves. If you’re in Bhupalpura, you’ve probably passed by our gate without thinking much of it. We keep things simple and honest. No big speeches, just a lot of practice and the occasional tea break to talk about how the lessons are going. We just enjoy what we do here at J-1 and keep at it.
