Rajasthan Gems

Our shop is right inside Hotel Mahendra Prakash on Lake Palace Road. It’s a nice enough spot, especially with the tourists walking by toward the lake. Rajasthan Gems has been operating out of this space for a while now. We have a lot of stones and jewelry sitting in the cases. It’s not a huge place, just a room where we sit and talk to whoever walks in. Sometimes it’s very busy and other times we just sit and polish things while waiting for a customer. The sun comes through the window in a way that makes the gems sparkle, which is nice. We don't do much in terms of advertising; people usually just find us because they are staying at the hotel or walking down to the water. We have some old family photos on the wall and a small stool for people to sit on while they look at the rings or necklaces. The Lake Palace Road can get quite crowded with rickshaws and motorbikes, but inside the hotel grounds it’s usually quiet. We know most of the other shopkeepers around here. It’s a decent way to spend the day, looking at stones and talking to people from all over. We don't have a big mission statement. We just show what we have and help people find something they like. It’s just a regular local business in a busy part of town. We stay open until the evening tourists head back.
