Rastriy Misthan Bhandar

Rastriy Misthan Bhandar is tucked into the Goverdhan Vilas RBH Colony, specifically at 3/4. It’s a quiet residential area for the most part, so we don't get that crazy market rush like shops in the city center. Most of our customers are neighbors we’ve known for years. They come in for their daily fix of namkeen or a few pieces of gulab jamun for dinner. The shop stays cool in the morning but gets quite bright as the sun moves. We spend a lot of time filling the glass jars with different types of savory snacks. Each jar has a different spice level. We don't use any big machines, just some basic tools and our hands. Sometimes we make mistakes and a batch gets a little too salty, but we try to be careful. The floors are stone and they stay relatively clean, though there's always a bit of sugar grain here and there. It’s a small family operation. We sit on the wooden stools behind the counter and wait for the doorbell to chime. Life moves a bit slower in this colony. We listen to the radio and keep an eye on the street while we work. It’s not a place for big city talk, just a simple sweet shop serving the people who live nearby. We do our bit every day and keep the shelves stocked for the tea-time rush.
