Nakoda Kirana Store

At Nakoda Kirana Store, we are located at Ashok Nagar 1. This is just a regular neighborhood grocery shop where we keep the essentials. We have bags of flour, jars of spices, and all the small things people realize they forgot at the last minute. The shelves are packed pretty tight because we try to fit as much as possible into the space we have. I spend most of my day behind the wooden counter, weighing out pulses or grabbing items from the top shelves with a reaching stick. It is a quiet life for the most part, except for when the school kids come in for snacks. We know most of our customers by their first names because they live just down the street. We don't have a computer system for billing; we still write things down in a notebook or on small slips of paper. It works for us. Sometimes the delivery trucks block the road for a bit when they are dropping off crates of soda or sacks of grain. We apologize to the neighbors and just get the unloading done as fast as we can. It isn't a supermarket, it’s just a corner store. We stay open late most nights because people always seem to need something after dinner. That is how we have always done it, and we don't see any reason to change now.
