You can find Maharaja Paints & Hardware at 76 Bhatiyani Chohata, right near Mukherjee Chowk and Oswal Bhavan. This part of the city is quite old and the streets are narrow, so it’s always a bit of a squeeze getting through. We’ve been running this shop for a long time and we know almost everyone in the neighborhood. We sell all kinds of paints and basic hardware tools that people need for their daily repairs. The shop is filled from floor to ceiling with boxes and cans. It’s a bit cramped, but we know exactly where everything is kept. If you need a specific bolt or a particular shade of distemper, we can usually find it if you give us a minute. Being near Oswal Bhavan makes us easy to find for most folks. We spend our time talking to customers and giving them advice on which brush or hammer might be best for their job. It’s not a modern store with bright lights and barcodes. We still do things the old way, writing out bills by hand and chatting about the local news. The traffic outside can be noisy with all the scooters and tourists, but once you step inside, it’s just the smell of hardware and paint. We open up in the morning and stay until the street gets quiet at night. It’s a steady life and we’re happy to be part of the community here in Bhatiyani Chohata. Some days we sit out front just to watch the world go by.
