Kalulal Mawa Bhandar

Our place, Kalulal Mawa Bhandar, is located right in Bhadbhuja Ghati. If you know the area, it is quite narrow and always full of people moving around. We work mostly with mawa and other dairy products that go into making sweets. The work starts very early, long before the sun is even up, because we have to get the milk and start the boiling process. It gets very hot in here with the large vats going, especially in the summer months. You can smell the milk cooking from down the street. We don't have a lot of space, just enough for the equipment and a small counter where we sell to customers. Most of our regulars are local sweet shop owners or families who need fresh mawa for a festival or a wedding at home. The walls are a bit stained from the steam and the floors can get slippery, so we have to be careful. It is a traditional kind of business, passed down and kept going the old way. We don't use fancy machines, just the same pots and stirrers we have had for years. It is exhausting work and your arms get tired from all the stirring, but it is what we do. People come to us because they know we are here every day. It is a simple life in a busy part of town, just making sure the quality is okay for the day's batch.
