Brahmi Kirana Store

Down here in Daspan Village, near Abu Road, is where you’ll find Brahmi Kirana Store. We’re on the main road that connects Daspa and Tukora, not too far from the railway station. It’s in the Bhinmal Tehsil area. It’s a quiet enough spot until the trains come through. The store is filled with everything from big sacks of grain to small packets of biscuits. We open up early because people in the village need things before they head out to the fields or the station. There’s always a layer of dust from the Jalore Main Road that I have to wipe off the counters every morning. We don't have fancy scanners or anything like that. I just write things down in a notebook and use a small calculator. It gets busy in the evenings when everyone is coming home. People stop by to grab some lentils, oil, or maybe some soap. We talk about the weather and the crops while I bag their items. The shelves are a bit crowded and sometimes things get tucked away in corners where they’re hard to find. It’s just me and a family member helping out most days. We sit on the wooden stools near the entrance when it’s slow. The fan clicks overhead, and we watch the bikes go by on the road. It’s a simple life running a village shop. We just make sure we have the basics that everyone needs.
