Aravali Arts & Jewellers

Our place, Aravali Arts & Jewellers, is over in Ambavgarh at Chandragiri. It’s a bit more relaxed than the city center, which is nice because we can focus on what we’re doing without too much chaos outside. We have a lot of traditional pieces and some local art that we’ve collected over time. The building itself is just a regular spot, nothing too flashy. Most days, we’re just sitting here, maybe cleaning a few items or talking to someone who wandered in from the nearby hotels. People who come to Ambavgarh are often looking for something specific or they’re just tourists seeing the sights. We have some heavy wooden cabinets where we keep the older pieces. Sometimes we spend hours just rearranging the small items so they look right. It’s a lot of fine work, looking at small details and making sure everything is in its place. We drink a lot of chai during the day and talk to the other shop owners nearby. It’s a small community here. We don’t really do much advertising; people just find us or someone tells them to come by. The sun hits the front of the shop in the afternoon, making it quite bright inside. It’s a good place to work, and we’ve been here long enough that it feels like home. There is always a layer of dust on the exterior windows that we struggle to keep off, but that is just part of being in this area. It gets quite hot in the summer, and we just have to sit under the old fan.
