Andhra Bank

Andhra Bank has this branch in Shakti Nagar, Nirala Nagar, right opposite the Ashok Bakery. Most of us who work here have a bit of a problem because the smell of fresh bread and biscuits from the bakery comes right through the doors all day long. This is a local branch where we see the same faces every week. It is not like the big headquarters in the city center. We spend our time going through ledgers, helping people with their passbooks, and making sure the cash counts are right at the end of the day. The building itself is a bit older, and sometimes the air conditioning makes a strange rattling noise, but we have gotten used to it. We have a small seating area for customers, though it gets quite full on the days when pensions are released. It can be a lot of repetitive work, stamping papers and typing into old computers, but the conversations with the locals make the time pass. We don't have a lot of fancy technology here; we rely more on knowing the people who come in. Sometimes we have to stay late to finish the balancing, and that is when we usually send someone across to the bakery for a snack. It is just a regular bank branch doing what needs to be done for the neighborhood.
