Varna Foods

Out on Rameshwaram Main Road, things feel a bit different. Varna Foods is located at 4/33-6 in Davis Puram. It’s a place where the air smells like spices and sometimes a bit of the sea if the wind is right. We spend most of our hours in the back where the actual work happens. There are big pots, bags of grain, and plenty of heat. It’s not a quiet office environment. There’s the sound of chopping, water running, and people talking over each other. The building is simple, just a standard structure along the road. We don’t have a fancy dining area or anything like that because we’re more about the preparation side. Davis Puram is a bit away from the main temple crowds, so it’s a little calmer, but the main road still gets its share of buses and pilgrims. We usually start while it’s still dark outside to get everything ready for the day. Our clothes usually end up smelling like whatever we’re making. The floor gets washed down twice a day because things get messy. We don’t have a big corporate sign, just the name on the wall. It’s hard work, and your back usually hurts by the time you go home, but it’s what we do. We just make sure the food is handled right and the bags are packed before the trucks come.
