Bhavaprita Soft Toys

Our shop is over in Millerpuram, right near the railway station on Emperor Street. It's shop 106, tucked in with a few other small businesses. We make and sell soft toys here. It’s a bit of a niche thing, I suppose, but there’s always a grandparent looking for a gift or someone wanting something for their kids. The shop isn't huge at all, but every corner is filled with stuff we’ve put together. You can usually hear the trains pulling in and out while we work. We spend a lot of time just sorting through bags of fabric and bags of stuffing. It’s messy work and there is thread all over the floor by the end of the day. People walking to and from the station often pop their heads in just to see what’s new on the shelves. We don't really do any big advertisements or anything like that. Most people find us just because they live in the neighborhood or they're passing through on their commute. We have some wooden shelves that are a bit wobbly, but they hold the bears and dolls just fine. It’s mostly just a few of us doing the sewing and the selling. Some days are very quiet, especially when the rain starts. We try to keep a decent variety of colors and sizes in stock. It’s a very simple setup. We’ve been at this same location for a bit now and know the other shop owners well. We just keep making the toys.
