Airtel Telecom

Airtel Telecom is just the name on the board outside. Most days are pretty much the same here in Arasarkulam. We open up early in the morning, sweep the front bit of the shop, and wait for people to come in for their phone recharges or to ask about getting a new SIM card. The shop is located in Vallakulam Post, right via Thathankulam in the Tuticorin district. The weather around here gets really heavy sometimes, that kind of coastal heat that makes you want to sit under the fan all day. We don’t have fancy air conditioning, just a regular ceiling fan that clicks a bit on the high setting. Customers usually have a lot of questions about why their data is gone or how to use a certain app on their new phones. We help them out as best as we can without making it sound too complicated. The shop is small, with just enough room for a wooden counter and a few plastic chairs for people to wait. Sometimes we run out of small change and have to go to the tea shop next door to break a note. It’s not a big corporate operation, just us doing what we do every day for the folks around here. People often stop by just for a chat even if they don’t actually need anything. It gets quiet in the evenings when the sun goes down. That’s usually when we start thinking about closing up and heading home.
