Akshara Eye Foundation

Our place is located at 6052 Railway Station Road. As the name suggests, we are right by the tracks. You can hear the trains rolling through at all hours, and the floor vibrates just a little bit when the big express engines go past. It’s an old building, and the paint on the outside is starting to peel a bit in the corners. Inside, it’s mostly just functional space. We have a long hallway with different rooms for testing eyes. The lighting isn't the brightest, but it works for what we do. We get people coming in from the station all the time, sometimes they just stopped by because they were passing through town. There’s no big reception area with a TV or anything. Just some old wooden benches that have been polished smooth by years of people sitting on them. The staff here has been together for a long time, so we all know each other’s habits. We usually eat lunch together in the small back room. It’s a very straightforward operation. We don’t spend much time on decorations or making things look fancy for photos. It’s just about getting the eye exams done and helping people see a bit better. The windows are usually kept closed to keep out the soot from the trains, but it still gets in sometimes. It’s just a regular part of being on this road.
