Slv Jaggery Industries

Out here in Gunnanayakana Halli, life moves at a different pace. Slv Jaggery Industries is located in Dudda Hobli, near the Shivally Post office area. We spend our days dealing with sugarcane and the heat of the boiling vats. It is not an easy job, especially when the weather is hot, but it is what we know how to do best. The smell of boiling juice is always in the air around our place. We get the cane from the nearby fields, and it’s a lot of physical labor to get it processed correctly. Our setup is pretty basic, just the crushers and the big pans for cooking. We don’t have fancy machines, just a few local men who have the strength for the work. Sometimes the supply of cane is low, and things get quiet, but usually, we are quite busy during the main season. We pack the blocks by hand once they cool down and harden. It’s sticky work, and our clothes always end up stained by the end of the shift, but that's part of the trade. We aren't some big factory; we are just a small unit in the village trying to make a living. Most of the people around here know us because we’ve been at this spot for a long time. We just focus on getting the work done every day and making sure the blocks are firm and the color looks right.
