If you find the Shiv Mandir, you’re basically there. Goel Fertilizer Company sits right near it, and we’ve been part of this neighborhood for quite a bit. The smell of the earth and the bags is something you get used to after the first few days. We keep the shutters open early in the morning when it’s still cool outside. People come by mostly to ask about what they should use for their patches of land or their crops. We aren't scientists, but we’ve seen enough seasons to know what usually works and what doesn't. Sometimes the delivery trucks block the narrow road, and the neighbors get a bit annoyed, so we try to move fast. There is a small desk in the corner where the accounts get done, mostly by hand. It gets dusty, no matter how much we sweep. The floor is concrete and has a few cracks from moving the heavy bags around over the years. We usually have a radio playing somewhere in the background, mostly just for some noise while we’re stacking things. It’s a straightforward way to make a living. We don't have a website or anything like that because most people just walk in or call the old landline. The temple bells ring at certain times of the day, and that’s how we know it’s time for a break. We’ve been here long enough that most of the regulars don't even need to say what they want anymore. It’s just how we run things, with a bit of help from the tea stall next door.
