Golden Sands-Kovalam

Our place is right by the Light House Beach in Kovalam, down in the Vizhijam area. You can see the big lighthouse from where we are, and you can always hear the waves hitting the shore if it’s a quiet morning. It is a very busy spot, especially when the tourists are in town and everyone is walking around the sand. We spend a lot of our time making sure the building looks okay and the guests have what they need. The salt air tends to wear things down quickly, so there is always some painting or fixing to do around the property. It is a different kind of life living and working so close to the water. We see the fishermen heading out early and the sun setting over the ocean every single day. The walk up from Vizhijam can be a bit steep, but the view makes up for it. We don't really have a big corporate team or anything. It is just a few of us here making sure things run smoothly. Some days the heat is quite heavy, but the sea breeze helps out a bit. People come here to get away from the city, and we just try to keep the place simple and clean for them. It’s a small operation, and we like it that way because we get to know the people who stay with us. Sometimes the monsoon rains make things a bit difficult, but we manage.
